Summary:

• Chapter 1

• In the beginning, there was no love lost between us. Intrigue, sure, and a healthy dose of fear. I’d read his file, but was unprepared for the man himself. He was much larger, in almost every way, than I’d expected, imposing and fierce. But, also, gentle in a way I did not expect. Concerned for his lost crew member, willing to collaborate; I was unprepared for his calculated acceptance. I expected to argue with him. To have to convince him. For some reason, I did not expect a Maquis leader to respond to logic. And then he sacrificed his ship for mine. I’ll admit, I was stunned.

  But of all the emotions I felt that day, and the days afterward, even when I transiently thought of Mark – love couldn’t have been further from my mind.
